Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited BSNL has accepted the proposal to lay off its 54000 employees. This is a very big figure. Hence it is almost the 30% of the total workforce of BSNL.
Headlines are -:
1 -: The retirement age is reduced to 58 from 60.
2 -:VRS is being provided for employees above age 50.
Reportedly, the BSNL board in March had approved three out of 10 suggestions which were put forth by a government-established expert panel. However, the report stated that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is unlikely to go through with the layoff proposal until the elections are over.
Officials of Bsnl work on this proposal after the elections of lok sabkha. Therefore Many experts said that if company wants to survive in the field with this such competition they have to took this step.
At present company has total 1,74,312 employees working for them. And the decision of VRS and retirement age will exit 54,451 employees. This step save upto Rs 13,895 crores in next 6 years for BSNL.
In february both BSNL and MTNL fails to pay salaries to employees. Hence now center govt has to take the final action on this.
